Applications
Asphalt Paving
HTFs are designed and rated to maintain consistent temperatures for asphalt plants. Problems occur when there is a sudden loss of fluid from the system causing it to shut down. Because delivery schedules need to be kept, some asphalt contractors will “top off” a system with any oil that happens to be on hand just to keep the operation moving.
Biodiesel
A Florida BioDiesel plant, designed and constructed in the mid 1990’s needed a durable, food-grade, thermally stable high-temperature heat transfer fluid to heat the transesterification process and distill the methanol off the glycerine recovery.
The engineers chose the Paratherm NF® Heat Transfer Fluid. This food grade (NSF approved) fluid operates between 48°C and a film temperature of 343°C.
Chemical Processing
Whether for heating reactors and maintaining high temperatures (bulk temperatures up to 357°C) or for extreme process cooling/exothermic heat removal at the lower end of the scale (down to -96°C) Paratherm has the liquids, and the experience, to provide heat transfer fluids and expert knowledge to serve a wide range of applications in the chemical processing industries (CPI).
Engineered Wood
This industry supplies the housing and construction markets with oriented strand board (OSB), medium density fiber (MDF), paneling, plywood and other specialty wood-based building products.
Gas Processing
In petroleum refining operations, used oil recycling, gas processing, and alternative fuels, Paratherm provides heat transfer fluids, system cleaning liquids, and technical services.
Industrial Laundry
Gaining in popularity, thermal oil systems used to heat flatwork ironers offer greater productivity per unit floor space. System corrosion, condensate return and steam trap maintenance are eliminated. There is no water treatment or discharge problem, and operating costs are substantially reduced through system efficiencies. And, in most areas of the country there is no need for expensive licensed operating engineers.
Plastics
For temperature control in molding, extrusion, press heating, line tracing, and coating rolls, Paratherm manufactures several specialized heat transfer fluids.
Poultry & Meat
Paratherm minimizes downtime for meat, seafood, and poultry further processors through a combination of proactive, preventive maintenance contact, regular fluid analysis checkups, and a network of stocking warehouses and distributors throughout the UK, and increasingly, around the globe as well, to deliver the fluid quickly for routine orders, and very very quickly in the event of an equipment or plant emergency.
Solar Energy
We get a lot of enquiries about using heat transfer fluids for solar applications. These phone calls and emails come from engineers, mechanical contractors, process designers project managers—and even homeowners.
We thought it could be useful to our web visitors to devote a web page to this topic, so here is a summary of the applications of heat transfer fluids in solar energy utilization.
